Boosting Asean Packaging Industry

ACCA 23rd AGM & 1st Management Committee Meeting (2019-2021), Wuhan, China, 26 August 2019

ACCA (Asian Corrugated Case Association) held its 23rd AGM cum 1st Management Committee Meeting (2019 – 2021) on 26th August 2019 at Hilton Wuhan Riverside Hotel, Wuhan, China which was attended by members from China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and our team from MACCMA, Malaysia.

 

The ACCA President, Mr Xu Xiaoguang of China Packaging Federation (CPF) officially opened the meeting with a warm welcome speech to all participants.

 

Representatives from each member country presented their respective country reports on economic outlook, industry data, business trends and challenges.

 

In the evening, all ACCA members were hosted to a scrumptious dinner at the Hanyang Hall @ Hilton Wuhan Riverside Hotel.

 

 

ACCA ASIAN CORRUGATED INDUSTRY SUMMIT 2019, Wuhan, China, 27 August 2019

Asian Corrugated Industry Summit was held on 27 August 2019 in conjunction with ACCA meeting at Wuhan, China. There were guest speakers from Indonesia, Thailand and China sharing their insights on global market trends and technological developments.

 

The growing e-commerce industry is one of the factors driving the global corrugated packaging industry where market demand is expected to surge drastically.

 

High-speed digital printing technologies are opening new opportunities to the corrugated packaging industry with machinery advancements capable of customizing products according to market requirements.

 

With the introduction and application of industry 4.0, robotics and automation are set to bring the benefits of data management to improve efficiency and transform manufacturing process for optimal performance and profits.

 

The speakers shared various knowledge of the corrugated packaging industry moving into new market challenges.

MACCMA Chairman’s Interview by Nanyang Siang Pao, 20 September 2019

MACCMA received invitation from Nanyang Siang Pao for Interview of MACCMA Chairman concerning latest update on Malaysia’s Corrugated Industry and also market situation (refer to article in Chinese below).

 

(吉隆坡20日讯)马来西亚瓦楞纸箱制造商协会 (MACCMA)主席刘尚文透露,中美贸易战期间,共有4家中国企业已获批在我国设立造纸厂,其中一家投资金额为3亿5000万美元(约14亿6200万令吉)。


他接受《南洋商报》电访时说,这4家中企是于去年获得马来西亚投资发展局批准,以来马设立造纸厂,其中两家在设厂过程中。 刘尚文坦承,中企来马设厂,多少会对本地纸箱制造商构成竞争,但基于本地供应不足,还需要向外国进口,也就不碍事了。

 

“本地供应不足,可以向这里的中国造纸厂取得供应。”

 

他指出,中国政府为了解决国内的污染问题,自去年1月1日起禁止进口各类塑料和纸张,并提高能接受的材料的标准。他说,中国已停止从美国进口废纸,而且非常严谨处理这方面的进口,来我国设立造纸厂,又不用被征税。

 

吸引50电子企业

他补充,超过50家中企在贸易战期间,前来我国发展电子配件及电子产品等项目。另一方面,中美贸易战也给工业包装行业带来商机,可为来马投资的中国家具厂供应工业包装。但一名工业包装业者指出,中资家具业者来此开厂,应会慎重考虑成本和关税,这两点可能促成中企打消念头。

 

他指出,中企除了寻求塑胶、保丽龙和纸箱包装品,也需要如木材之类的家具原料。“一些工业包装业者半年前,已获得中企接触以获取工业包装服务,但至今未有进一步下文。”

Study Trip to Fosber, Italy, June 2019

In Early June 2019, MACCMA organized a study trip for all Exco members to visit Fosber Italy, located in Lucca City.

 

MACCMA received warm hospitality from Fosber Italy led by Mr. Alfio Brandi and Mr. Marco Cesari.  Fosber Italy arranged a guided tour for MACCMA members to their Fabrication Plant, R&D Plant and Warehouse on Spare part for supporting their global customers.

 

MACCMA team was very much impressed with the advanced machineries & solution for corrugated industry which are readily equipped for Industry 4.0 such as High Speed Performance with minimum worker needed, advanced features such as Distance Diagnostic, Trouble Shooting using Virtual Reality, and Data Analytic on machine’s performance and health.

 

The eye-opening trip would not be possible without the kind assistance and arrangement from Mr. Gary Piong of Fosber Malaysia.

 

A total of 14 MACCMA Exco members participated in the study trip during which we also took the opportunity to visit a few beautiful cities in Italy including Rome, Pisa & Milan not only for sight-seeing, but also for some good networking and experience-sharing between Exco members and also witnessing the trend of packaging industry in Europe.

 

 

ACCA 4th Management Committee Meeting, Shanghai, China, 7 April 2019

Asian Corrugated Case Association (ACCA) held its 4th Management Committee Meeting on 7th April 2019 at Grand Park Jia You Hotel, Shanghai, China. The meeting was attended by representatives of member countries from China, Hong Kong, Taipei, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia as well as newly-joined members from Vietnam and Myanmar.

 

Mr Xu Xiaoguang of China Packaging Federation (CPF) as ACCA President, welcomed all participants.

HARTA PERAK launched its second plant,  Jan 2019

HPI Resources Bhd’s subsidiary, Harta Packaging Industries (Perak) Sdn Bhd (Harta Perak) has launched its second plant, Harta Perak Plant 2 (HP2) at the Parit Buntar Industrial area.

 

HPI Resources Group Managing Director, Mr Chang Kee Soon said the second plant costing RM45 million is equipped with the newest state-of-the-art corrugated machine incorporating German web precision technologies and packaging machine.

 

He said the second plant would double HPI’s production capacity in the northern region to 66,000 tonnes annually from 36,000 tonnes at present.  Chang said Harta Perak also manufactures slip sheets, a product that increases payload per container, and eliminates fumigation and pallet cost.

 

“A specialised vertical die cutting machine was imported from Japan to improve slip sheet dimension accuracy, ensuring the highest quality to our customers,” he said, adding the company would continue to remain steadfast in providing good services and product quality to customers while remaining harmonious with the environment.

“Moving forward, we have been building capacities across Malaysia and in Cambodia, at the same time churning out more innovative products to fulfil the evolving market demand,” he said.

 

HP1 is located less than one kilometre from HP2 and is equipped with state-of-the-art machines that are able to produce triple-wall corrugated boards or boxes used in solar, automotive, petrochemical and electronics industries, on top of the conventional single and double-wall corrugated sheet boards and boxes.

 

 

Data Analytics Awareness Workshop, 9 Jan 2019

MACCMA organized an Awareness Workshop on Data Analytics on 9th Jan 2019, at VIDA Business Suite, Bukit Ceylon, Kuala Lumpur which is also the corporate office of Yee Lee Corporation Bhd.  The 2.5 hours workshop was conducted internally by Exco Member, Mr Remus Shai from South East Asia Paper, who also heads the Data Analytic Project for both Yee Lee & Spritzer Group of Companies.

 

The Awareness Workshop covered basic fundamentals of Data Analytics including the importance and benefits of analyses of all available data for better insight and decision making.  He also demonstrated some Interactive Reports using the latest Business Intelligence Software from Microsoft Power BI, to give the audience the feel of how such application can be applied in the corrugated industry.

MACCMA’s evening out with BHS

It was notably a very interesting fellowship whereby BHS was represented by its top management team.

 

A number of issues was exchanged and it was notably obvious that the corrugated industry in Malaysia has been supporting BHS and have been growing together, proving the products introduced were of reliable and profound standards.

 

Regionally, BHS has also used the result from MACCMA members’ success to reach out to other Asian markets.

 

In appreciation of the support from MACCMA members, BHS has committed to support MACCMA’s Annual Dinner in return.
